You Can Be 90 Percent in the Green Zone and Measuring Nothing
A model that predicts close to the population mean can place most of its points in a clinical error grid's acceptable zones and post a respectable error percentage, while explaining less variance than the mean itself. Check the variance explained against a mean baseline, under a subject-disjoint split, before believing any accuracy figure from a physiological model.

Your Mel Spectrogram Is Not the Same as Theirs: Six Parameters That Have to Match
Audio feature extraction has at least six parameters whose defaults differ between libraries, including the mel scale convention itself. A mismatch between the path used in training and the path running on the device produces a systematic tilt across the spectrum rather than noise, so the model degrades in a structured way that looks like a robustness problem. Pin all six and a recurring bug becomes a one-time piece of work.
